The GX4000 was basically just an 8-bit CPC+ home computer placed into the shell of a videogame console to try and get Amstrad into the emerging gaming market.

Nintendo and Sega were powerfully established in the scene already for years at this point, and had just begun launching into the 16-bit era proper.

Bad timing and total lack of hype spelled disaster for this neat looking console, which didn’t even survive for a full year.
