Ah, the Street Fighter Alpha series. It introduced us to a bunch of great new features and future fighting game staples, such as the triple super combo meter, air blocking, fall rolling, counters, and even a training mode (on console versions).

And, I mean, it also gave us Dan Hibiki. OYAJIIIIIIII!

The graphical style and new moves were welcome additions to the growing Street Fighter universe, and the new characters were very exciting. I remember my first brush with Alpha when I was dumped off at a State Band clinic for a week, spending all my money on the cabinet in the dorm cafeteria.

I spent all my free time handing people their own ass with Charlie, who I picked up quickly.

One thing that really blew me away was the very different and unique soundtrack, which featured all sorts of styles of music. Later, playing through the second and third installments, I noticed that the sound never stopped evolving. The entire series takes cues from cultures all over the world rather than sticking to any one feeling, style, or genre, and there are always multiple composers working together per game. Awesome stuff.
